When I was a young attorney, many years ago, friends and family members often asked what drove me to pursue a legal career. Aside from all the typical altruistic platitudes, deep down I truly had no idea. All I knew for certain was that God had set me on this journey for a very good reason, and I was determined to walk in faith trusting
When I was a young attorney, many years ago, friends and family members often asked what drove me to pursue a legal career. Aside from all the typical altruistic platitudes, deep down I truly had no idea. All I knew for certain was that God had set me on this journey for a very good reason, and I was determined to walk in faith trusting His plan.
As I progressed through the trials and tribulations of young lawyerhood and fine-tuned my craft under the leadership of some of the legal profession’s brightest minds, I discovered a lot about my internal makeup. Most significantly, I am driven by a sense of profound curiosity, a healthy reluctance to accept what I am told without exercising independent critical thought, and an insatiable thirst for truth.
Even in childhood, I was the little boy who asked too many questions, and was occasionally admonished to “mind my smart mouth,” and I had difficulty accepting “because I said so” as a valid response to a fair question. Ironically, those same childhood traits, which doubtless annoyed my parents and teachers at times, would become invaluable strengths in my career. The legal profession often throttles the best and brightest minds with slavish deference to the rubrics of tradition and custom. This pervasive mentality affords fertile ground for a free thinker to shine, unshackled to "the way it's always been done."
By embracing my inherent passion and channeling it through my independent law practice, the "why" became crystal clear: It is my God-given privilege to help others find justice and peace in this often-chaotic world, because life is too beautiful and way too short to waste precious time bogged down in endless conflict and negativity.
